EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS IN JIGAWA’S AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

Jigawa State is experiencing a significant boost in its agricultural landscape, marked by strategic investments and collaborative efforts. Recently, the Director General of Invest Jigawa, Hajiya Aisha Sheikh Mujaddadi, participated in a high-level meeting with key stakeholders, including the Jigawa State Government, the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission , and China Overseas Engineering Group (COVEC). The focus was on advancing a substantial $200 million investment aimed at transforming Jigawa’s agricultural sector.

This investment follows COVEC’s impressive $624 million commitment made in August, underscoring Jigawa’s emerging status as a hub for innovative and sustainable agribusiness ventures. The ongoing investments are expected to catalyze economic growth, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development within the region.

Key Focus Areas of the Investment

The discussions centered around expanding the Integrated Agricultural Park initiative and strengthening collaborations across various critical sectors, including:

  • Rice, maize, and cassava value chains
  • Cattle ranching and livestock development
  • Fisheries and aquaculture
  • Agro-machinery manufacturing and assembly
  • Solar-powered agricultural infrastructure for sustainable energy use

These initiatives aim to enhance productivity, improve food security, and promote environmentally friendly farming practices, aligning with Nigeria’s broader goals of green growth and sustainable development.
