Jigawa State Showcases Agricultural Strength at Africa Food Systems Forum 2025

Jigawa State played an active role at the Africa Food Systems Forum 2025 held in Dakar, Senegal, from 31 August to 5 September. The event brought together leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators from across Africa and beyond to shape the future of the continent’s food systems.

The Jigawa State delegation was led by Governor Umar Namadi, with participation from senior officials including the Director-General of InvestJigawa, Aisha Sheik Mujaddadi, who represented the agency at the Jigawa State stand before joining the delegation for the broader sessions.

Throughout the week, Jigawa presented its strengths in wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus production, and reaffirmed its position as one of Nigeria’s agricultural leaders.

On the sidelines of the forum, Governor Namadi met with H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Chair of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). Their discussions focused on equipping Jigawa’s farmers with better tools, easing access to markets, designing long-term agricultural policies, and encouraging knowledge-sharing among smallholder farmers.

What It Means for Jigawa

  • Greater visibility for Jigawa as an investment destination in agriculture and agribusiness.
  • New opportunities to partner with AGRA and other stakeholders to improve farmer productivity.
  • Commitment to sustainable policies that benefit smallholder farmers and attract private sector investment.
  • Expanded markets for Jigawa’s key crops, strengthening its role in regional and international trade.

The participation of Jigawa State in the Africa Food Systems Forum underscores the government’s determination to drive agricultural transformation, create opportunities for farmers, and position the state as a hub for agribusiness investment.

InvestJigawa remains committed to advancing this vision by promoting investment opportunities and supporting the growth of agribusiness in Jigawa State.
